The Best Cafes in Shrewsbury

A recent study by EPIC (the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition) showed the Northern Europeans are much more likely to consume meals out of the home than Southern Europeans. Of those meals, or times spent ‘eating out’, 47.7% of this activity was spent consuming coffee, teas, and waters alone. Given this information, it is no wonder that cafe culture has grown by leaps and bounds in the last decade. In this case, the competition is stiff in most places for running an exceptional establishment and producing a quality product. Therefore, when visiting places in the UK, it makes sense that trying out a variety of cafes in the town or city one is visiting is an excellent way to experience the best the city. For instance, when staying at one of the many hotels Shrewsbury town centre has to offer, one should visit at least on the following establishments.

While you can find any of your high street coffee shops in Shrewsbury, the real treats are to be had at independent shops. One favourite spot is the Cafe Retreat located on the second floor of Serenity, a family-owned wellness centre, as well as being in an old Welsh chapel. Located in the town centre, it is loved for its peaceful ambience in the middle of the oft-busy shopping district. Cafe ESP is also a popular spot for delicious and cheap hot chocolates, while Arthur’s Cafe on Shoplatch Street is well known not only for its coffee, but its reasonably priced lunches and homemade cakes. Alfie and Billy’s Cafe is another popular spot and appears to have satisfied most all of its customers. Throughout the city, cafes appear to lurk around every corner. Perhaps the real treat of visiting Shrewsbury would be figuring out which cafe suits your taste best!

After checking into one of the boutique hotels in Shrewsbury and putting on your walking shoes, hit the streets of the town centre. After poking into one of the many historic buildings or modern shopping boutiques, find one of the cafes above or discover one for yourself.
