If you only have a day to see Vienna than your experience of this wonderful unique city is going to have to be a crash course in classical music and the arts - if your knowledge on both is less than adequate.
Vienna is the capital city of Austria and is considered by many who have visited or lived in the city as the world capital for classical music. Great composers, soloists and famous orchestras have all contributed to the reputation of the city. However, given that you will only be in the city for a day, a concert will most likely be an impractical way to spend your hours soaking up what the place has to offer. Most concerts are held in the evening anyway, but you can still do the next best thing, which is to visit the incredibly elegant buildings which have hosted some of the best classical musicians of all times. To name but a few, Vienna Musikverein, Vienna Volksoper, the Theater an der Wein, the Vienna State Opera are some of the historic venues you should try to see.
If you are however thinking of returning this month for more than just one day, then here is one concert you might want to consider buying tickets for:
The first is actually a daytime event so you could see it if you are in Vienna just for twenty-four hours. Book yourself into one of the many hotels in Vienna and go and see Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra is performing on Sunday the 13th of November 2011 at the Liechtenstein Museum. The concert is a part of a series that endeavours to unite music and fine arts at the highest level. The Museum’s Hercules Hall where they will be playing is the largest secular Baroque hall in Vienna and is exquisitely decorated. Hotels Vienna should be able to help you find a place to stay either close to the museum or in the centre of town close to a lot of the major attractions. Ask there about the ticket option, Art and Music, which also includes a free admission to the museum.
